While most contents are identical (though they may be presented in different languages), some content inevitably varies and only is relevant for the locals. A site with a globalize reach must be adapted for both localization and optimization. While there are many issues to consider in the construction of an e-commerce site, our primary focus here deals with aspects particularly relevant to a globalize site, including issues of site specification, customer research and branding, site structure, navigation and search engine optimization.

Content-based retrieval is not applicable here due to its low accuracy problem, which gets even worse due to the huge data volume. However, you might build the best Internet business and have no one come to your store. Having a clever and spectacular Web site does not generate sales by itself. Being listed in lots of Internet search engines does not guarantee customers will be directed to your Internet store Web site. Becoming a link exchange (http www.bcentral.com leindex) member is not necessarily a solution to generating high Web site traffic and Internet sales. The real key to Internet success is becoming a viable business first and then an Internet business second. In AntNet and AntNet-FA, The ant traffic can be roughly modeled in the terms of a set of additional traffic sources, one for each network node, producing rather small data packets (and related sort of acknowledgment packets, the backward ants) at a constant bit rate. In general, ants are expected to travel over rather short paths and their size grows of 8 bytes at each hop during the forward (AntNet ants) or backward (AntNet-FA) phase. Therefore, each ant traffic source represents, in general, an additional source of light traffic. Of course, they can become heavy traffic sources if the ant launching rate is dramatically raised up. Figure 8.17 shows the sensitivity of AntNet's performance with respect to the ant launching rate and versus the generated routing overhead.
Since key word annotations can precisely describe the semantic meanings of multimedia data, the text-based retrieval approach is effective in terms of retrieving multimedia data that are seman-tically relevant to the users' needs. Moreover, because many people find it convenient and effective to use text (or key words) to express their information requests, as demonstrated by the fact that most commercial search engines (e.g., Google) support text queries, this approach has the advantage of being amenable to average users. But the bottleneck of this approach is still on the acquisition of key word annotations, since there are no indexing techniques that guarantee both efficiency and accuracy if the annotations are not directly available.
WAIS indexes large text databases so that they can be searched efficiently by simple keywords or more complicated Boolean expressions. For example, you can ask for all the documents that mention firewalls or all the documents that mention firewalls but don't mention fire marshals . (You might do this to make sure you don't get documents about literal firewalls.) WAIS was originally developed at Thinking Machines as a prototype information service and, for a while, was widely used on the Internet for things like mailing list archives and catalogs of various text-based information (library card catalogs, for example). It is now much more common for people to provide search engines on web pages using CGI, instead of using WAIS directly as an access protocol. Some web browsers will speak the WAIS protocol, but WAIS servers are quite rare these days.
However, there are numerous ways for people to set themselves up so that external hosts are considered intranet hosts, and the security implications are unlikely to be clear to them. For instance, adding a domain name to the Domain Suffix Search Order in DNS properties will make all hosts in that domain parts of the intranet zone for a less sweeping effect, any host that's present in LMHOSTS or HOSTS with a short name is also part of the intranet zone. An internal web server that will act as an intermediary and retrieve external pages will make all those pages parts of the intranet zone. The most notable class of programs that do this sort of thing are translators, like AltaVista's Babelfish (http babelfish.altavista.com), which will translate English to French, among other options, or RinkWorks' Dialectizer (http www.rinkworks.com dialect), which will show you the page as if it were spoken by the cartoon character Elmer Fudd, among other options.

In order to gain a better understanding of the characteristics of MPEG-2 video traffic in a best-effort IP network, and how reconstructed MPEG-2 video quality is affected, an experimental Video-on-Demand (VoD) system has been employed. The system is comprised of a video file server, a PC-based router, and several client machines which are connected via switched Fast Ethernet (Figure 1). Different load conditions for the IP-based network are generated, using highly bursty background traffic sources. Video quality at the client is measured objectively using Peak-Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) calculations and also subjectively using the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) (see Section 4.5). We examine the correlation between IP packet loss and video quality.
Quality can only be assured if the required resources are allocated AND it is controlled wether the traffic sources are complying with the allocation. Therefore, ATM combines the above measures, and utilizes a so-called virtual circuit switching, fragmenting the information into small packets or cells with small fixed dimensions.
In addition, new techniques (i.e., data mining) are being created to extract information from large databases and to analyze it from different perspectives to find patterns in data. This process creates new information from data that may have been meaningless, but in its new form may violate a person's right to privacy. Now, with the World Wide Web, the abundance of information available on the Internet, the many directories of information easily accessible, the ease of collecting and storing data, and the ease of conducting a search using a search engine, there are new causes for worry (Strauss & Rogerson, 2002). This article outlines the specific concerns of individuals, businesses, and those resulting from their interaction with each other it also reviews some proposed solutions to the privacy issue.
Second, search engines also may potentially cause privacy problems by storing the search habits oftheir customers by using cookies. Their caches also may be a major privacy concern, since Web pages with private information posted by mistake, listserv, or Usenet postings may become available worldwide (Aljifri & Navarro, 2004). In general, cookies may be a privacy threat by saving personal information and recording user habits. The convenience of having preferences saved does not outweigh the risks associated with allowing cookies access to your private data. There are now many software packages that aid consumers in choosing privacy preferences and blocking cookies (see solutions section).
The Web changes so rapidly that it's almost senseless to put the names of web sites in print. There are a wide variety of security and system administration sites, ranging from sites put up by attackers (that appear and disappear extremely rapidly) through subscription-only sites run by magazines. Your best bet is to use a web search engine to look for information about the topics that interest you. You usually will get better information from using a variety of sources found this way than from any single site.
