CCITT Signaling System No 7 481 Overview

CCITT Signaling System No. 7 (SS No. 7) is the most commonly used signaling system for all digital networks using 64 kbps channels. It is simply a digital data network dedicated entirely to inter-switch signaling between stored program control (SPC) exchanges. The overall objective of SS No. 7 is to provide an internationally standardized general purpose common channel signaling system to meet the requirements of information transfer for inter-processor transactions with the digital communications networks for call control, remote control, network database access and management, and maintenance signaling. It provides a reliable means of information transfer in the correct sequence without loss or duplication. The provision of ISDN services (Chapter 6) is made possible by the existence of the SS No. 7 data communications system.
