Video Transport Processing

Real-time video is rather different in terms of characteristics compared to real-time voice. Since video is made up of a series of still images a variation in delivery timing (e.g. packet delay jitter) does not produce the same dramatic effect as for voice where high jitter can trigger concealment actions. For video, jitter will manifest itself as a variation of display frame rate which only produces minor degradations in the conversational quality. Hence, although some sort of receiver buffer is needed, no mechanisms similar to the jitter buffers used for speech are used for conversational video.
